Home Energy Scotland comes to East Linton

CAEL is very grateful to Home Energy Scotland for coming to talk about what can be done in the home to save energy, and what support is out there.

Based on levels of interest we may look to arrange another similar event in the Autumn - if you’re interested please drop us an email.

Here are some useful links and information which they have provided as follow up to the event:

Home Energy Scotland loan

The Home Energy Scotland loan is an interest-free loan funded by the Scottish Government, intended to help make energy and money saving improvements to your home. The amount of funding you can claim depends on what improvements (energy saving, renewables systems or secondary improvements) you want to make. Please note that this scheme does not offer double glazing if you already have it.

For a limited time, up to 40% cashback for some eligible energy efficiency measures and 75% for renewable heating systems is available. Funding is based on total costs and capped at a maximum value. All funding is subject to availability and reserved once a loan is offered, not on application to the scheme. Find out more about the Home Energy Scotland loan.

Renewables Installer Finder tool

The Energy Saving Trust’s Renewables Installer Finder tool is an excellent starting point for anybody looking to source Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) accredited installers to provide quotes for a renewables installation. You can search for installers by location, and also read customer reviews. Both your installer and the system they install must be MCS certified to qualify for an export tariff and the Home Energy Scotland loan.

National Insulation Association

When searching for an installer for insulation the National Insulation Association (NIA) is a useful resource to be aware of. Their site has an online database of installers which can be searched by postcode to find companies operating in your local area.

The Glass and Glazing Federation

The Glass and Glazing Federation is a good place to start if you’re looking for a contractor to carry out work to install double or secondary glazing. Their website features a list of member companies which can be searched by postcode and by product type.

Historic Environment Scotland - The Engine Shed

As the organisation tasked with the preservation of Scotland’s built heritage, Historic Environment Scotland are able to provide in-depth advice to owners of traditional buildings regarding maintenance and best practice when making improvements. The link is their property maintenance page but also features contact details which can put you in touch with their experts. Regarding energy efficiency upgrades it’s probably best to ask for their Technical Research Team.
